Challenge: find a student in Booralie and talk to them about their experiences.
Introduction:
We've used the Second Life software to establish a 3D virtual environment, in the form of an island, where students can interact, and build, and showcase their work. The environment is student driven. They have built the world, and protect the world. Only students and teachers from our school can access it.
If possible, Steve will run it from his computer and you can come out and explore. It is locked down - just our students and staff.
Costs a lot to set up and run! A teacher in Sydney called Westley Field runs 'Skoolaborate' which is a similar space that is available to your students.
e.g.:
- 3D Bookstore where students can showcase, trade or sell texts they have written - poetry, stories, etc.
- in-world radio station (see other page)
- in-world Art Gallery, displaying real school artworks that are photographed and replicated in-world.
- all buildings are desgned and built by self-managing teams of students. They submit a proposal and then manage the project themselves, often self-educating on how to build and code objects in the environment by Googling!

Introduction:
We've used the Second Life software to establish a 3D virtual environment, in the form of an island, where students can interact, and build, and showcase their work. The environment is student driven. They have built the world, and protect the world. Only students and teachers from our school can access it.
If possible, Steve will run it from his computer and you can come out and explore. It is locked down - just our students and staff.
Costs a lot to set up and run! A teacher in Sydney called Westley Field runs 'Skoolaborate' which is a similar space that is available to your students.
e.g.:
- 3D Bookstore where students can showcase, trade or sell texts they have written - poetry, stories, etc.
- in-world radio station (see other page)
- in-world Art Gallery, displaying real school artworks that are photographed and replicated in-world.
- all buildings are desgned and built by self-managing teams of students. They submit a proposal and then manage the project themselves, often self-educating on how to build and code objects in the environment by Googling!
